London tops the list of most attractive investment destinations

London and other major UK cities make it to the list of top investment-friendly cities in Europe

In, what may come as a surprise to many, the UK remains a strongly-favoured business destination, says a report by global real estate advisor Colliers International’s Cities of Influence. Contrary to earlier views and opinions predicting the UK going down the ladder in terms of business, the scenario seems to be much brighter. Earlier, there were fears of brexit pushing the country way down in terms of business and investments. In fact, the UK now leads the chart of countries in business performance and has widened the lead over its nearest competitor, Paris.

The top performers on the chart not only include London but other UK cities of Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow have also made it to the top ten. This shows that the UK, as a whole, remains as the most favoured place to invest in Europe. Previously, there were worries regarding businesses moving their offices out of London to other European cities. But, the UK is seeing more investments from international investors which have set the pace of investment high.

Powered by a number of factors such as flexible labour laws and a bigger workforce, it has now emerged as a place where more investors from across the world are willing to invest. Factors such as uncertainty surrounding brexit and low levels of productivity have failed to deter big investors who are now paying more emphasis on creating workplaces that help accelerate their business and attract talent, said Colliers’ EMEA Corporate Solutions director Simon Ford.

Out of the 50 cities analysed by the advisor, London emerged as the best major European economic city for employers. Although, there were apprehensions regarding the UK being a risky place after brexit, it fared as one of the lowest risk countries in Europe to set up and operate a business. The operational risk profile of the UK has weakened as a result of brexit, more than any other European country said head of EMEA Research Damian Harrington. Overall, UK cities have a strong standing. The report also included the changing nature of workplace strategy, which had evolved rapidly. Employers are also focussing on improving workplaces. Businesses are now focussing their efforts to make workplaces more attractive to employees. They plan to offer more benefits to employees to raise productivity.
