PegasusLife has applied for planning permission to create a mix of retirement flats for the over-60s, which, according to it, will make a ‘positive contribution’ to the town.
It wants to build a mix of 126 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. It has submitted a planning application to North Somerset Council around Christmas time.
The proposed site is off Harbour Road and Newfoundland Way.
Pegasus received planning permission for 118 apartments back in November 2015 on the same site.
In its submission to North Somerset Council, Pegasus says it ‘requires architects to design beautiful buildings’.
It also says: “The design has been very carefully considered to provide a fantastic environment for older people in Portishead and also to make a positive contribution to the townscape.”
Pegasus would provide a number of communal facilities too for residents, including a lounge, restaurant, hobby room and a wellness area.
Pegasus hopes its development will be complete by April 2018, providing North Somerset Council gives the revised scheme the green light.
The land near Martingale Way was once earmarked for a hotel; however Holiday Inn Express did not proceed with the scheme.
