The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.53 per cent to reach a new 3-month high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.41 per cent, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.46 per cent
U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares up.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.53 per cent to reach a new 3-month high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.41 per cent, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.46 per cent.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company, which advanced 1.47 per cent or 1.38 points to trade at 95.37 at the close. Microsoft Corporation added 1.28 per cent or 4.78 points to close at 377.85 and Home Depot Inc was up 1.27 per cent or 3.87 points to 309.21 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc, which shed 1.38 per cent or 0.29 points to trade at 20.69 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc shed 1.38 per cent or 3.43 points to close at 245.98 and Walmart Inc lost 0.76 per cent or 1.18 points to 154.68.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were eBay Inc which gained 3.09 per cent to 41.64, Advanced Micro Devices Inc which was 2.81 per cent higher to settle at 122.51 and HP Inc which advanced 2.80 per cent to end at 28.65.
The worst performers were Autodesk Inc which was 6.90 per cent lower at 202.66 in late trade, Deere & Company which shed 3.11 per cent to settle at 370.74 and Tesla Inc which was 2.90 per cent lower at 234.21 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Impel Neuropharma Inc which advanced 143.44 per cent to 0.78, AgileThought Inc which was 137.35 per cent higher to settle at 0.20 and Presidio Property Trust which added 53.43 per cent to end at 0.94.
The worst performers were Alpha Technology Group Ltd which was 32.65 per cent lower at 13.80 in late trade, Entrada Therapeutics Inc which shed 31.85 per cent to end at 11.36 and Hongli Group Inc which was 30.19 per cent lower at 3.70 at the close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was 0.39 per cent lower at 12.80, a new 3-year low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.03 per cent or 0.50 to $1,993.30 a troy ounce. In the meantime, Crude oil for delivery in January dropped 0.92 per cent or 0.71 to reach $76.39 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract dropped 0.85 per cent or 0.70 to trade at $81.26 a barrel.
