Tech leaders call on May to protect Britain’s world-class standing

The Government must do more to save the UK’s world-class status digital status after Brexit, London’s top tech leaders have urged.

They have called on Prime Minister Theresa May to relax visa rules for skilled migrants and to keep promoting start-ups. In an open letter unveiled at TechCrunch Disrupt, they wrote that the Government must make a “clear statement” to ensure the tech sector “isn’t damaged by recent rhetoric”. They said that in “these uncertain times, the British high-growth technology sector needs certainty from the Government in order to continue its world-class status”.

The added, “Britain has attracted some great entrepreneurs from around the world”.

“It is imperative that the Government recognises the need to attract and retain the very best talent globally.”

The tech leaders include lastminute.com co-founder Brent Hoberman, who now runs entrepreneur community Founders Forum, Sonali de Rycker of tech investor Accel Partners and Kathryn Parsons, co-founder of Decoded.

Their calls have been prompted by the Brexit vote and the uncertainty that has shed on the future of thousands of overseas workers and funding for start-ups.
